Laurie's Story

Laurie was born in Arcata, CA and grew up in Texas, Ohio, and Indiana before enrolling at Purdue University. Somewhere between her numerous backpacking and climbing trips with Purdue's outdoors club and a semester in Singapore, she managed to earn a degree in Computer Engineering. She moved to San Francisco after college to pursue a career as a tech consultant for Accenture. She has been traveling all over the US for work since.

Henry's Story

Henry was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He attended Cornell University, where he spent his time building robot submarines and earning a degree in Information Science. He also migrated west after college to start his career as a developer for Apple in Cupertino. He continues to wow Laurie with his ability to brew delicious beer and bake baguettes.

Our Story

Laurie and Henry met at a series of "sugar socials" held by a mutual friend (and aspiring professional baker) circa 2010. They became good friends in the fall of 2011 when they discovered their mutual passion for pub trivia. They spent the next three years biking around Northern California, weekending at Laurie's various work locations, cooking, reading together, and of course, visiting wine country.

On a Friday night in November 2014, Laurie and Henry were having a glass of wine after work in Henry's apartment. Henry used an erasable marker to write Laurie's name on her wine glass, and nothing on his own. Laurie asked why he didn't write his name on his as well, or at least write something cute on it. When Henry got up a few minutes later to refill his glass, Laurie continued to gab on about her day, oblivious to Henry's secretly writing on his glass. When he sat back down, he asked "is this cute enough?"

Needless to say, after recovering from shock Laurie joyfully and whole-heartedly accepted.
